Canada names squad for upcoming T20 World Cup campaign

Canada announced its squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament will take place in India and Sri Lanka. The squad confirmation was released in January 2026. This marks Canada’s second appearance at a Men’s T20 World Cup.

Canada qualified by winning the ICC Americas Regional Qualifier. The team finished the qualifier unbeaten. That performance secured direct entry into the global tournament. Canada made its World Cup debut in the previous edition in 2024.

The squad includes 15 players. Selected batters include Navneet Dhaliwal, Nicholas Kirton, Ravinderpal Singh, Dilpreet Bajwa, and Ajayveer Hundal. All-round options named are Saad Bin Zafar, Harsh Thaker, Shivam Sharma, and Ansh Patel. The bowling group features Kaleem Sana, Dilon Heyliger, Jaskarandeep Buttar, Kanwarpal Tathgur, and Yuvraj Samra. Wicketkeeping duties will be handled by Shreyas Movva.

Several players in the squad bring prior international experience. Many took part in Canada’s earlier T20 World Cup campaign. Others featured in regional qualifiers and bilateral T20 internationals. The selection reflects continuity from previous tournaments.

The announcement did not name a captain in the squad release. Team leadership details are expected to be confirmed closer to the tournament. Canada Cricket stated the squad was chosen based on recent performances and squad balance.

Canada will compete in the group stage against strong opposition. Their opening match is scheduled against South Africa. The group also includes New Zealand, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates. Matches will be played at venues across India.

The Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will feature 20 teams. Teams are divided into four groups. Each side will play group matches to qualify for the Super 8 stage. Points earned during the group phase determine advancement.

Canada’s previous World Cup campaign included a group stage victory. The team collected points despite facing established cricket nations. The 2026 tournament provides another opportunity for Canada to compete on the global stage.

Tournament matches begin in early February and conclude in March. Canada’s squad will prepare through training camps and warm-up matches before the competition begins. The team will aim to secure results during the group phase to progress further in the tournament.
