Point, who plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning, suffered a lower-body injury. The injury occurred during an NHL Stadium Series outdoor game. Medical evaluations later determined he would not be fit to compete at the Olympics. Hockey Canada then activated its replacement process.

Once Point was withdrawn, Jarvis replaces Point Canada roster as the designated substitute. Jarvis plays for the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL. He had been placed on Canada’s standby list when the original roster was finalized. Standby players were eligible for selection if injuries occurred before the Games.
Jarvis entered the season with strong offensive production. At the time of selection, he had recorded 19 goals and 29 points in 34 NHL games. He had also represented Canada in international competition during the previous year. His availability allowed Canada to fill the open forward position without further changes.
