Tina & Anastasija write history

The 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships were held in Adelaide, Australia from November 14 to 23. Latvia’s Tina Graudina & Anastasija Samoilova triumphed as the new women’s world champions in beach volleyball after defeating USA’s Kristen Nuss & Taryn Brasher in the gold medal showdown. It was not only Latvia’s first-ever World Championship title, but also the central European country’s first-ever World Championship podium in either gender.

Nuss & Brasher’s silver was their second medal in the competition, after the 2023 bronze they earned in Mexico. It was also USA’s 14th medal in the history of the women’s World Championships.

Brazil’s Carol Solberg & Rebecca Cavalcanti claimed the Adelaide 2025 women’s bronze to make their first World Championship podium and collect Brazil’s 19th women’s medal.

Fifth-seeded Tina & Anastasija reached the final match in Adelaide without dropping a single set on the way. They crowned their impeccable run of seven straight-set wins in a row with a 2-0 (21-10, 21-16) sweep of their semifinal against the world’s number one team at the time, top-seeded Brazilians Thamela Coradello & Victoria Lopes. The first set the Latvians lost at the World Championship was the second one of the 2-1 (21-15, 15-21, 15-11) gold medal showdown against third-seeded Nuss & Brasher.

“I can’t believe it!” an emotional Tina told VBTV right after the final. “The game was so close. We constantly lost to them all the times that we had played. But today everything happened as we wanted. It’s amazing!”

“Big, big thank you to my partner Tina, to the entire team here and in Latvia and, of course, to our Latvian fans cheering for us. We are just so grateful for this journey, for this victory here… It’s just amazing! We are the luckiest and the happiest persons in the world right now,” Anastasija added.

Nuss & Brasher also reached the Adelaide 2025 final undefeated in seven matches played. In their semifinal, they battled back from a set down to celebrate a 2-1 (19-21, 24-22, 15-6) victory over second-seeded Carol & Rebecca to secure their spot on the podium.
