Three Sochi 2014 silver medallists are among Sweden‘s 25-man ice hockey squad nominated for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, which will see the return of National Hockey League (NHL) players to the Olympic tournament.
That includes Gabriel Landeskog, who was named as one of Sweden’s first six players on their preliminary roster in June. He is joined by blueliners Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Erik Karlsson. Two other Olympians have also made the cut: Rasmus Dahlin (PyeongChang 2018), who was on the preliminary roster alongside Landeskog, and Pontus Holmberg (Beijing 2022).
There is a strong Minnesota Wild presence on the roster, with four Wild players making the 25, including rookie goalie Jesper Wallstedt. Wallstedt has had a remarkable season so far, with 11 wins from his 16 games including four shutouts.
Four of the top five Swedish points scorers in the NHL this season are on the team. Lucas Raymond (11 goals, 33 assists—44 points), William Nylander (14-27—41), and Adrian Kempe (13-19—32) were all on the first six, while 21-year-old Anaheim Ducks hotshot Leo Carlsson‘s play (17-25—42) has also earned him a selection.
Sweden have competed in men’s hockey at the Olympics 23 times, with Milano Cortina 2026 being the team’s 24th appearance. Sweden made their debut at the Antwerp 1920 Summer Olympics, and have won gold twice – at Lillehammer 1994 and Torino 2006. They also have three silvers and four bronzes.
As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Winter Games, athletes’ participation at Milano Cortina 2026 depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at the Games.
