Some competitions will begin before the ceremony. Events such as curling and women’s ice hockey start on February 4 and 5. The 2026 Winter Olympics will feature athletes from countries across the world competing over a 16-day schedule.
Where the 2026 Winter Olympics Are Being Held
The 2026 Winter Olympics are the first Winter Games to be officially co-hosted by two cities. Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo share hosting duties. Events are spread across eight locations in northern Italy.
Men’s alpine skiing events are held in Bormio. Women’s alpine skiing events take place in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Other venues include Livigno, Predazzo, and additional regional sites. The wide geographic spread reflects the scale of the Games and the variety of winter sports.
Sports and Events at the 2026 Winter Olympics
The 2026 Winter Olympics will include 16 sports and 116 medal events. These cover ice and snow disciplines. Events include figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey, alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and more.

Ceremonies and Paralympic Games
The opening ceremony will feature two Olympic cauldrons. One cauldron will be located in Milan, and the second in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The closing ceremony will mark the official end of the Olympics on February 22.
The Paralympic Winter Games will follow the Olympics. They are scheduled from March 6 to March 15, 2026, using many of the same venues.
The 2026 Winter Olympics mark Italy’s return as a Winter Games host for the first time since 2006.
