Ittihad and Kuwait Club aim to maintain group leads

After the holiday break, the 2025–26 FIBA West Asia Super League picks up again with important Gulf League games. Ittihad Club and Kuwait Club are in first place in their groups as they start up again. Both teams have the same 3–1 records and want to keep their spots as the group stage enters its final stretch.

Ittihad Club starts the week by playing Kazma at the Green Basketball Court. In their first meeting in late October, Ittihad beat Kazma 92–81. Mohammed Almarwani will miss a lot of time because he tore his ACL, so Ittihad will not have him for the game. Kazma also has problems with his roster. Abdulrahman Alshammari and Abdulaziz Mohsen can’t play because they hurt their Achilles tendons during a domestic league game.

Kazma comes in on a three-game losing streak. They lost their last game, which was against Muharraq, by a score of 92–64. That outcome came after a win against the same team at the start of the season.

Kuwait Club is back in action with a road game against Al Ula Club at the Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hall in Medina. On October 28, Kuwait City, Kuwait Club won their first meeting 113–108. That win was Kuwait Club’s first of the season, and Jamal Jones led the way.

Kuwait Club has won two more games since that one, and they are on a three-game winning streak this week. The team is in first place in Group B right now. Another win would make it stronger and give it a better chance of getting directly into the semifinals.

Al Ula has won two and lost two games. The team lost a close game at home to Sharjah SC on December 9, 101–100. The loss came after Al Ula beat Shabab Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, where they won all of their group stage matches.

Late in the game, they won that one. DeMarco Dickerson made a four-point play with only a few seconds left after getting fouled. The sequence kept Al Ula from escaping on the road and added to their uneven run.

The rematch coming up gives Al Ula a chance to bounce back and stay in the running for the title. This week’s results will affect where teams stand before the Final Phase.

This week, the Gulf League will start up again, and so will the WASL competitions in Iran and Lebanon.
