Two goals from Ayoub El Kaabi, including a spectacular overhead kick, led Morocco to a 3-0 victory over Zambia on Monday, 29 December. This win secured their spot in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Olympiakos striker scored in both halves in front of 62,532 fans at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz added a third goal, scoring in his third straight match of the tournament.
Morocco completed the group stage unbeaten, with two wins and a draw, finishing at the top of Group A with seven points.
Mali came in second after a third consecutive draw, which ended in a goalless tie against Comoros.
As group winners, Walid Regragui’s team will stay in Rabat for their Round of 16 match. They will face one of the best third-placed teams on Sunday, 4 January.
