Double Olympic snowboarding gold medalist Chloe Kim has been injured in training ahead of the final World Cup at LAAX, Switzerland, leading to Milano Cortina 2026. Kim announced the news on social media on Thursday (8 January), saying she “took the silliest fall”, which shows her crashing into the wall of the halfpipe.
She add that the fall “ultimately resulted in me dislocating my shoulder”.
Kim says she doesn’t yet have clarity on the extent of her injury and will be getting an MRI tomorrow (Friday, 9 January).
The Milano Cortina 2026 snowboard halfpipe competition begins 11 February, putting Kim’s participation in doubt depending on the severity of the injury.
The Beijing 2022 and PyeongChang 2018 gold medalist has already secured her spot on the U.S. team for Milano Cortina 2026. In these third Olympic Games she is looking to make history as the first woman to win three consecutive halfpipe gold medals.
Chloe Kim’s injury follows on another injury weeks before at the World Cup at Copper Mountain
Chloe Kim’s shoulder injury sustained in the halfpipe at Laax, Switzerland follows another setback just weeks earlier at the World Cup in Copper Mountain, Colorado (19 December). Kim, in perfect form, had qualified first, but withdrew before the finals after a fall during training, citing an undisclosed injury. She shared the decision on her social media channels.
Despite only posting the one qualifying competition results for the 2025/26 season, Kim remains one of the most dominant athletes in women’s halfpipe snowboarding.
She secured her qualification for Milano Cortina 2026 during the 2025 season winning the World Championships in Engadin, Switzerland on 29 March, marking her third World Championship crown.
Kim also won two 2024/25 World Cups as well as her eighth X Games halfpipe gold medal.
