Travis Head Confident at the Top, Throws Support Behind Fellow Opener Ahead of Sydney Ashes Finale

Sydney, Australia — Australia batter Travis Head has expressed strong confidence in his role as a Test opener and has publicly backed his opening partner to come good, as Australia prepares for the final Ashes Test against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Head has been one of Australia’s standout performers throughout the series, thriving since being promoted to the top of the order. The left-hander has shown a willingness to take the game on early, providing momentum against England’s bowling attack and reinforcing his belief that opening suits his natural game.

Speaking ahead of the Sydney Test, Head said he feels settled at the top and is enjoying the responsibility that comes with facing the new ball.

“I’m really happy opening the batting. I feel like my game is in a good place, and I’ve enjoyed the challenge of getting us off to strong starts,” Head said.

While Head has flourished, Australia’s opening combination has been under scrutiny following inconsistent returns from his partner. However, Head urged patience, insisting that Test cricket demands time, trust, and backing — especially for players still finding their feet at international level.

“It’s not an easy role, and Test cricket can expose you early. But we’ve all been there. You need support, and I believe the runs will come,” Head added.

The Australian batter emphasized that difficult batting conditions across the series have challenged players on both sides, with movement, pace, and bounce proving decisive factors. He noted that even experienced batters have found consistency hard to come by, making perspective and stability crucial heading into the final match.

Australia currently hold a commanding 3–1 lead in the Ashes series and will look to finish the campaign strongly in Sydney, not only to cap off a successful summer but also to build momentum for the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Selectors are expected to maintain faith in the current top order for the series finale, with Head’s form and leadership providing a reassuring presence as Australia aim to close out the Ashes in front of a packed SCG crowd.

The fifth Test begins in Sydney on January 4, with pride, momentum, and championship points all on the line.
